New Copilot and agentic experiences make powerful AI easy on Windows 11 Today, we’re taking an exciting step forward with a new wave of updates that make every Windows 11 PC an AI PC – with Copilot at the center of it all. We are making the most powerful AI more accessible by integrating it into the Windows experiences people are already using every day. When we think about what the promise of an AI PC is, it should be capable of three things:
  • First, you should be able to interact with it naturally, in text or voice, and have it understand you.
  • Second, it should be able to see what you see and be able to offer guided support.
  • And third, it should be able to take action on your behalf.
All with your permission and built upon the security of Windows 11. We believe this shift to conversational input will be as transformative as the mouse and keyboard in terms of unlocking new capabilities on the PC for the broadest set of people. Until now, the power of AI has often been gated behind your skill at prompting.  The more context you provide and detail you share, the richer response you receive in return. But typing it out can be tedious and time consuming, especially if it takes multiple tries to get it right. With 68% of consumers reporting using AI to support their decision making, voice is making this easier.1 The magic unlock with Copilot Voice and Copilot Vision is the ease of interaction. Using the new wake word, “Hey Copilot,” getting something done is as easy as just asking for it. And with your permission, Copilot Vision can analyze what’s on your screen helping you learn new apps, get recommendations for a project or show you how to do it.  Since its initial release, early adopters of Copilot Vision have inspired us with their creative use cases, from troubleshooting settings, to getting step by step guidance, and even learning complex editing tools. And this power is available to every Windows 11 device where Copilot is available. Let’s dive into what’s new.

Just ask, with “Hey Copilot” on Windows 11

https://youtu.be/KgQMcwhq334 People are already talking at their PCs every day for dictation and note taking, transcriptions, searching, and with important accessibility features like Voice access and Voice typing. Now, your PC can understand you. We’re seeing that when people use voice, they engage with Copilot twice as much as when they use text.  This ease of use leads to deeper engagement within Copilot.2 New wake and goodbye words make it even easier to use, which are generally available for Windows 11 PCs. This opt-in feature gives people a new way to easily start a conversation with Copilot Voice, anytime the feature is enabled. To get started, enable “Hey, Copilot” in the Settings of your Copilot app, then simply ask a question starting with “Hey, Copilot…”. You’ll see the Copilot microphone appear on your screen, along with a chime to indicate that Copilot is listening. To end a conversation, you can say “Goodbye”, tap ‘X’ or Copilot will end the conversation automatically after a few seconds of no interaction. You will hear a chime confirming that the conversation has ended.

Copilot Vision on Windows is now available worldwide

We’re also making Copilot Vision on Windows available in all markets where Copilot is offered. Including:
  • Full desktop and app sharing: When you share your desktop or applications, Copilot can help analyze content, provide insights and answer your questions, coaching you through it aloud. Get tips on making improvements to your creative project, help with improving your resume or guidance while navigating a new game.
  • Highlights: With Highlights, you can ask Copilot “show me how” for a specific task and it will show you within the app where to click and what to do. Altogether, Copilot can be by your side giving you tips while playing a game, viewing your photo and showing you how to improve the lighting to make it perfect, or reviewing your travel itinerary to let you know if your packing list is sufficient based on your destination.
  • Full app context in Word, Excel and PowerPoint: When you share Word, Excel or PowerPoint files, Vision can see beyond what’s available on your screen. For example, if you ask Copilot to help review a PowerPoint deck, it could analyze the entire presentation without needing to flip through each slide.
  • Text-in Text-out: Coming to Windows Insiders soon, we’re also enabling the ability to converse with Copilot Vision using text, with Copilot responding in text within the same chat window. Previously you could only use Vision using voice, and Copilot would coach you through it aloud. So, whether you forget your headphones or just prefer engaging via text, Vision will soon be able to support you across whichever scenario suits you best.

Delivering deeper and richer Windows 11 experiences, coming soon to Windows Insiders and Copilot Labs

The energy and enthusiasm of the Windows Insider community has helped shape the future of Windows for over a decade. Now, alongside Copilot Labs, we’re bringing even more experimental AI and agentic features to Windows Insiders. To ensure we deliver an experience our customers truly love, we’ll start by previewing the following experiences in the Windows Insider Program where your feedback will guide us as we refine and evolve the experiences.

Bringing Copilot into your flow with a reimagined taskbar experience

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYlYZWxci-Y With the new Ask Copilot on the taskbar, Copilot becomes a natural part of how you use your PC, ready to help, guide and collaborate the moment you need it. Our vision is simple yet bold: to make the taskbar a dynamic hub that helps you accomplish more with less effort, transforming everyday interactions into moments of productivity and delight. This opt-in experience provides one click access to Copilot Vision and Voice, enabling more natural engagement in your flow. With utility across voice, text and guided support with Copilot Vision, you can engage Copilot on your terms, in the way that works best for you. With lightning-fast search results in a refreshed design, the new streamlined search experience makes finding apps, files and settings faster and easier, with results appearing and updating instantly as you type. This experience leverages existing Windows APIs to return your apps, files and settings, like the Windows Search experience and does not grant Copilot access to your content.

Previewing Copilot Actions for local files in Copilot Labs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syJ0LiRJkC4 In May, we announced Copilot Actions on the web – allowing Copilot to take real actions on your behalf, like booking a table at your favorite restaurant or ordering groceries. Coming soon to Windows Insiders in Copilot Labs, we're previewing an experimental capability for Copilot Actions to expand beyond the browser to take actions directly on local files in Windows. Whether you need a hand sorting through your recent vacation photos or need to extract info from a PDF, Copilot Actions can do the heavy lifting for you based on the context of what’s on your PC. As a general-purpose agent—simply describe the task you want to complete in your own words, and the agent will attempt to complete it by interacting with desktop and web applications. While this is happening, you can choose to focus on other tasks. At any time, you can take over the task or check in on the progress of the action, including reviewing what actions have been taken. We’ll be starting with a narrow set of use cases while we optimize model performance and learn. You may see the agent make mistakes or encounter challenges with complex interfaces, which is why real-world testing of this experience is so critical to help us apply learnings to make this experience more capable and streamlined.

Bringing even more functionality to Copilot on Windows, with Copilot connectors, easy doc creation and Windows settings integration

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPOCU2D0HSk Copilot connectors, now available to Windows Insiders, allow you to link your favorite services such as OneDrive files and Outlook contacts, emails and calendar events, as well as Google services including Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Contacts, directly to the Copilot on Windows app. Once you’ve opted in to connect a service, Copilot can find and understand your personal content using your own words, making it easier to find and remember details in your connected personal content across multiple platforms.  For example, you can say:
  • “Find my dentist appointment details” to instantly surface calendar entries.
  • “What is the email address of Mary?” to retrieve contact information without digging through your inbox.
  • “Find my school paper from my Econ 201 class” so Copilot can search OneDrive and provide the most relevant document in seconds.
You can now also ask Copilot to export your text to Word, Excel or PowerPoint, making it easier to jump right into projects. For example, if you asked Copilot for help with a homework assignment, you could export the results directly into a formatted document, spreadsheet or presentation of your choosing. Finally, we’re also adding an integration with Copilot on Windows with Windows Settings. Just ask Copilot a question about your Windows PC settings using your own words, which will provide a direct link to the relevant Windows Settings.  So now you can send directions such as, “Make my screen easier to read” or “Help me focus by reducing distractions,” and Copilot will guide you to the relevant Windows settings page.

Delivering deeper and more powerful AI actions so you can stay in your flow

We’re excited to introduce even more ways to get things done easier with new AI actions in Windows. Manus is a general AI agent that can take on various tasks on your PC. With the new Manus AI action in File Explorer, you can get help with complex tasks like creating a website using the documents in your local folder with just one click. Simply select the document, right click and select “create website with Manus,” and Manus will build a website for you in just minutes – no uploading, no coding. Manus is also available as a native app on Windows. You can get the same AI powered assistance from Manus to build a website right from the chat window without leaving your session. Simply type in the Manus app, "Please use the image files on my device and generate a great professional looking website”. Manus leverages the agentic platform capabilities available on Windows like Model Context Protocol to fetch the right document and build a website for you in minutes – no manually uploading your photos, no multiple clicks! You stay in your session or get to another task while Manus works in the background securely to help you accomplish your task.  This experience is in private preview and we’ll have additional updates to share soon. For more information on the security of experiences leveraging the Model Context Protocol, see: Securing the Model Context Protocol: Building a safer agentic future on Windows. We’re also introducing another new AIaction in File Explorer to edit with Filmora, allowing you to jump right into video editing easily and seamlessly. Finally, for Windows Insiders with Copilot+ PCs, we’re integrating Zoom with Click to Do. Soon, you can instantly schedule a Zoom meeting by invoking Click to Do and simply hovering over an email address visible on your screen—no app switching, no copying details, no interruptions. This keeps you in your flow and lets you act right where you are.

Securing AI on Windows 11

Security is at the heart of all we do at Windows, in line with Microsoft's Secure Future Initiative. Windows 11 is the most secure operating system we’ve ever made—by design and by default—with multiple layers of defense enabled to protect you from the moment you power on your PC. Security isn’t a checkbox; it’s an ongoing commitment. As we introduce powerful new agentic experiences on Windows, we’re more committed to evolving our safeguards to protect your privacy and security. Below are three security commitments we’re making as we add Copilot Actions, another step in the agentic journey on Windows:
  • You’re always in control of what Copilot Actions can do. Copilot Actions is turned off by default and you’re able to pause, take control or disable it at any time.
  • You’ll have visibility into what Copilot Actions is doing. You can monitor its progress and stay informed at every step. If a sensitive or important decision is involved, it may request your approval for the specific action, keeping you in charge.
  • We're introducing it responsibly. In addition to extensive internal testing, a critical aspect of developing secure experiences is to roll them out responsibly, starting in preview and gathering feedback to refine our security and privacy controls.
For more information, see Securing AI agents on Windows. Windows is committed to being the best, most secure platform for agentic experiences. We look forward to sharing more on security for agents on Windows, including enterprise controls, at Microsoft Ignite next month.

Whether you’re using a Copilot+ PC or Windows 365 in the cloud, we want you to experience the best of Windows 11, starting with security at the core. We also recognize that transitions to new PCs take careful planning. With Windows 10 support coming to an end in October, we’re here to provide information and resources to help you choose the path that works best for you—whether that’s exploring the next generation of Windows, staying on your current PC with the Extended Security Program (ESU) or moving to a cloud-based solution.

Four people in an office working on laptop devices.Support for Windows 10 ends in October—Here’s what you need to know

As technology evolves, phasing out older operating systems and upgrading to newer versions is a natural part of the lifecycle—one that helps ensure you have the latest security features and innovations. Windows 10 launched in July 2015, and after nearly a decade, support will end on Oct. 14, 2025. Here’s what that means:
  • Microsoft will no longer provide security and feature updates and technical support for Windows 10 PCs. While these devices will continue to function, they will no longer receive regular security updates, making them more vulnerable to cyber threats, such as malware and viruses.
  • Companies and organizations that operate Windows 10 may find it challenging to maintain regulatory compliance with unsupported software.
  • Applications running on Windows 10 may no longer be supported, as the platform is no longer receiving feature updates. As a result, some apps may experience decreased functionality.
  • Microsoft 365 Appsi running on personal and commercial Windows 10 PCs will continue receiving security updates until Oct. 10, 2028, and feature updates through August 2026.ii These updates are intended to help ease customers’ transition to Windows 11 and will be delivered through standard update channels. These updates do not include technical support.
  • Microsoft will continue to provide Security Intelligence Updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus on Windows 10 through October 2028.
If you’re using Windows 10 today, checking if your PC can upgrade to Windows 11 is simple. Just click the Start button, then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can also use the PC Health Check app to see if your device meets the Windows 11 system requirements, or check with your organization’s IT team for support. We understand that your PC holds what’s important to you, from years of valuable files to cherished photos, and the personal settings that make it yours. To help make your move to a Windows 11 PC as simple and secure as possible, we recommend using Windows Backup—built right into Windows 10. It’s an easy way to help you safely and securely transfer your data, personal files, and most settings and applications, so everything’s ready for you the moment you sign in.

1, AI is revolutionizing how we use PCs today and in the future. And the best, most secure and most performant way to realize the benefits of AI today, and into the future, is with a new Windows 11 PC. Building on Windows 11, our most secure version of Windows, we introduced a new category of PCs – the Copilot+ PC. These PCs are the fastest, most intelligent and most secure Windows PCs ever built. With this introduction, we marked a significant milestone in our journey, extending the power of AI from the cloud to your PC, delivering exciting innovation for our customers and the industry. This AI-enabled PC milestone has been met with customer enthusiasm and is expected to continue in 2025. Our collaborative efforts with the biggest names in computing are instrumental in driving this momentum and forward progress, reimagining how we create, produce and reduce our task load. These highly performant and secure Windows 11 PCs have set new benchmarks for speed, intelligence and security, all with incredible battery life that exceeds what is on the market today. In fact, Copilot+ PCs are up to five times faster than the most popular 5-year-old Windows PCs still in use today and top models are up to 58% faster than a MacBook Air with M32.

“Microsoft and Qualcomm Technologies share the same vision of empowering users with powerful, seamless AI experiences, marking a significant step forward in the PC industry. The advancement of Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon® X Series processors set a new standard in performance and security, providing customers with unparalleled experiences and capabilities."

Don McGuire, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Qualcomm Incorporated.

The growth of the new PC category began with the introduction of Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon and, as announced at IFA, expanded to include AMD Ryzen AI and Intel Core Ultra processors this holiday, offering choice for our customers, and pushing the bounds of what’s possible with performance and battery life. We are excited about the continued innovation in the Copilot+ PC category today and in the coming months. Move forward with Windows 11

All of the innovation arriving on new Windows 11 PCs is coming at an important time. We recently confirmed that after providing 10 years of updates and support, Windows 10 will reach the end of its lifecycle on Oct. 14, 2025. After this date, Windows 10 PCs will no longer receive security or feature updates, and our focus is on helping customers stay protected by moving to modern new PCs running Windows 11. Whether the current PC needs a refresh, or it has security vulnerabilities that require the latest hardware-backed protection, now is the time to move forward with a new Windows 11 PC.

“By integrating NVIDIA's advanced GeForce RTX GPU technologies with the power of the Windows 11 platform, we are enhancing graphics, AI capabilities and overall performance. Collaborations like these let us bring the latest technologies and cutting-edge experiences to our customers. We look forward to sharing the next wave of innovations in accelerated computing through the course of CES, starting with today’s keynote."

Jeff Fisher, Senior Vice President of GeForce at NVIDIA

According to IDC, nearly 80% of businesses are planning to refresh their PC portfolio by the end of 2025, and 70% of consumers will refresh their PCs in the next two years3, emphasizing the increasing demand for secure, advanced AI-enabled hardware that Windows 11 PCs provide. And, with new apps added every day, developers are harnessing the power of AI to bring innovative experiences to Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs, such as ChatGPT and our native Copilot app. Windows 11 app experiences will continue to evolve, providing even greater functionality and clear benefits for our customers.

"Intel is excited to partner with Microsoft to continue to advance AI-driven innovation, enhanced security and superior performance into 2025. Copilot+ PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra 200V processors deliver on all these fronts, creating a compelling upgrade for consumers and businesses."

Jim Johnson, Senior Vice President, Interim General Manager, Client Computing Group, Intel

Continued ecosystem innovation

There's no better way to kick off 2025 and the excitement for the Windows 11 PC than at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), starting tomorrow in Las Vegas. Building on the rich portfolio of PCs available today from partners like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, Samsung and Surface, you can expect to see some exciting announcements coming this week at CES, and in the months to come. Alongside our ecosystem partners, we will demonstrate how, together, we are continuing to advance the category and the industry, making AI accessible and more secure to everyone. And, as the world moves with us to Windows 11, we will welcome them with new features, enhanced security, improved functionality, and the familiar Windows experience they know and love. Our silicon partners will deliver increased performance, capability and battery life. Our OEM partners will offer incredible devices with breakthrough features at a price for everyone. And our global retailers will offer incredible selection, value and PC recycling programs to assist you in trading in your old device and selecting a new one. Once you have purchased your new PC, Microsoft provides a one-stop solution to make it easier to transfer your files, themes, apps and settings, ensuring a fast, secure and seamless transition. We believe that Windows 11 is available at a time when the world needs it most – providing advanced AI capabilities and modern security benefits that customers expect in 2025 and beyond, highlighting that the forefront of AI innovation will be realized on Windows. As CES 2025 begins, showcasing the latest innovations in technology, we are excited for the advancements our industry will offer to people around the globe. The momentum and innovation across the Windows ecosystem will make 2025 a new year of possibility for our customers. And we believe that one of the most important pieces of technology people will look to refresh in 2025 isn’t the refrigerator, the television or their mobile phone. It will be their Windows 10 PC, and they will move forward with Windows 11. end of support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 20251, we want to ensure you are well-prepared for the transition to Windows 11. This milestone marks an important step in our mission to provide the most modern and secure computing experience possible for everyone whether at work, school, or home, and our commitment to continually improving Windows security as part of Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative (SFI). We are incredibly grateful for your loyalty and passion for Windows 10, and we are working hard to make it easy to move to Windows 11. This blog post is intended to help you prepare for Windows 10 end of support by outlining considerations for moving to Windows 11 today. Including:
  • Benefits of upgrading to Windows 11
  • Checking if your current Windows 10 PC can upgrade to Windows 11
  • Resources for purchasing a new Windows 11 PC
  • Information on the purchase of Extended Security Updates (ESU) for organizations of all sizes as previously announced in April of this year and, for the first time, an ESU option for consumers, available for a one-year option for $30.

Benefits of upgrading to Windows 11

Windows 11 builds upon the strengths and familiarity of Windows, offering you a modern, secure and highly efficient computing experience that meets the current demands for heightened security by default and by design. With integrated and enhanced security features, high customer satisfaction and notable productivity improvements — be it for work, school or play — new Windows 11 PCs are more secure, more productive and higher performing than Windows 10 PCs. And Copilot+ PCs, our fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever, take this capability a step further, embodying the ultimate Windows 11 experience with cutting-edge security measures, optimized performance and innovative AI-powered features that redefine what’s possible on a PC. Windows 11 features include:
  • Even more secure by default: Modernizing to Windows 11 provides a secure environment with advanced security features like TPM 2.0, virtualization-based security and the vulnerable driver block list enabled by default, as well as Smart App Control which is available on new installations of Windows 11 on any PC. New Windows 11 PCs are more secure, with a reported 62% drop in security incidents and 3x reported reduction in firmware attacks.4 At a premium price, Copilot+ PCs deliver even more protection, including memory-based integrity, Secured-core PC capabilities, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security and the built-in Microsoft Pluton Security processor.
  • Trusted Windows experience: Windows 11 maintains a familiar user experience from Windows 10, with a consistent layout and functionality, while introducing a more modern and streamlined UI design. Key elements like the Start menu and taskbar have been updated for a cleaner look, but the overall navigation and usability remain intuitive and user-friendly, like Windows 10.
  • Optimized for speed and efficiency: Enhanced response time when in sleep mode, faster web browsing, intuitive navigation and improved, updated fundamentals all contribute to better performance on Windows 11. Leveraging the performance of Windows 11, Copilot+ PCs offer even more power and efficiency, and lightning speed when performing AI-powered productivity and creativity tasks. In fact, Copilot+ PCs are up to 5x faster than the most popular five-year old Windows PCs.3
  • Better multitasking: Features like Snap Layouts and Multiple desktops help you stay organized and productive. With Snap Layouts, you can organize your open windows and optimize your screen space, making multitasking easier and more efficient. Multiple desktops are great for keeping unrelated, ongoing projects organized — or for quickly switching desktops before a meeting.
  • Built-in accessibility features: Windows 11 is the most inclusively designed and most accessible version of Windows yet. Windows 11 includes a host of accessibility improvements designed for and with people with disabilities: calmer, more appealing sound schemes; beautiful new contrast themes and closed caption customizations; and, a more responsive and flexible experience for working with assistive technologies.
  • Designed with energy efficiency in mind: Featuring energy saver capabilities and carbon-aware Windows Updates.
  • Copilot, your AI companion: With Copilot, you can get straightforward answers, learn, grow and gain confidence. Copilot breaks down complex concepts and helps you make sense of it all. Easily accessible right from the Windows taskbar or the Copilot key on new Windows 11 PCs.

Modern security starts with hardware

Starting Oct. 14, 2025, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates. As security threats evolve and adapt, so must our operating systems and hardware. Because of this, we designed Windows 11 to be the most secure version of Windows ever — by default and design — to help you stay ahead of those risks. Advanced security features include hardware-based protection through TPM 2.0, enhanced authentication methods and virtualization-based security fully enabled by default. Windows 11 also includes phishing protection, offering robust defense mechanisms, and provides an extra layer of security against common and persistent cyberattacks, like attempts to compromise login credentials or install malware. [caption id="attachment_179179" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Smart App Control in Windows 11 Smart App Control in Windows 11[/caption] Notable Windows 11 security benefits include:
  • Microsoft Pluton security processor: Designed by Microsoft and our silicon partners, Pluton is embedded in the PC’s processor, enhancing many Windows 11 and all Copilot+ PCs with protection for user identity, data and apps accompanied by reliable updates from Microsoft distributed with safe deployment best practices.
  • Hardware and software integration: Features like secure boot, virtualization-based security, memory integrity, Secured-core PC, the vulnerable driver block list, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) defaults contribute to the additional security as compared with Windows 10 devices.
  • A safer app experience: Smart App Control in Windows 11 enhances security by automatically blocking untrusted or potentially harmful applications, ensuring a safer and more reliable computing experience. This proactive feature helps protect you from malware and other threats without compromising performance.
  • Windows Hello extended to protect passkeys: Passkeys are another secure step towards eliminating passwords entirely, making it much harder for hackers to exploit stolen passwords through phishing attacks.

How to take advantage of these new and improved features

Many of these new experiences will start to become available today, via Windows Update and new apps available via Microsoft Store updates. Windows 11 devices will get new functionality at different times, as we will be gradually rolling out some of these new features over the coming weeks initially via controlled feature rollout (CFR) to consumers. Consumers with eligible devices running Windows 11, versions 22H2 and 23H2, who are interested in experiencing these new enhancements now can choose to do so by going to Settings > Windows Update and turning on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” and then selecting “Check for updates.” We anticipate broad availability for most new features by the April 2024 security update release for all eligible devices. Most of these new Windows 11 features will be enabled by default in the March 2024 optional non-security preview release for all editions of Windows 11, versions 23H2 and 22H2. IT admins who want to get the new Windows 11 features can use the enable and control optional updates policy to enable optional updates for their managed devices. As is our normal practice, we will closely monitor the rollout of these new Windows 11 features and continue to share timely information on the status of the rollout and known issues (open and resolved) via the Windows release health dashboard and @WindowsUpdate. Unleash your creativity with AI-enhanced tools in Paint

Save time and produce your video with less effort using Microsoft Clipchamp

Microsoft Clipchamp opening screen When it comes to storytelling with video, editing matters just as much as the scenes themselves. Microsoft Clipchamp can help you make it all come together with enhanced AI tools like Auto Compose. This new feature built into Clipchamp will help you get a head start on editing with just a few simple questions on the type of video you are developing. From there, Clipchamp will provide recommended scenes, edits and a narrative for you – all based on your input and creative assets and a few simple clicks. When your work is complete, easily save it to OneDrive or Google Drive, send to your social channels like Tik Tok, Instagram and LinkedIn, or upload to YouTube. To get started, just search for the Clipchamp app right from Search on your Taskbar.

Snipping Tool gets an AI upgrade

Earlier this year, we announced the addition of screen recording capabilities in Snipping Tool. Now, along with recording visuals from your screen, you can also capture sound using audio and mic support, all within Snipping Tool. Need to record a tutorial on YouTube or record an online class? Snipping tool now makes it easier than ever to get it done. To utilize the screen recorder feature, simply press Win + Shift + R or Print Screen. To help further streamline your workflow with Snipping Tool, we are introducing two new text actions – text extraction and redaction. Text extraction screen in Snipping Tool Whether you need to extract specific content from an online article, a video call or any other source, you can effortlessly scan and copy text directly into other documents using text extraction. Using the copied text, you can perform web searches or easily incorporate it into your Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. Moreover, protecting your privacy and sensitive information is paramount and with text redaction, we help you take that extra step to secure your confidential information. You can completely black out any text you don’t want to show – such as an email address within your screenshots or a category of information. Quick redaction makes maintaining privacy faster without any manual effort on your part. To get started, navigate to the ”text actions” mode after snipping your screen. Windows Backup

It’s never been easier to move to your next PC

Windows Backup opening screen We know that when you buy a new PC you want to spend your time using the device, not setting it up. That’s why we’re making moving your important details to your new Windows 11 PC easier than ever before with Windows Backup. Using Windows Backup, you can select your preferred backup options across most files, apps, settings and credentials4. When you move to a new Windows 11 PC, you’ll have the option to restore content from any of your backed up PCs, directly from the cloud, by logging in using your Microsoft account6. Windows Backup will make sure that everything is where you left it on your old PC5 – just how you like it. And, if you need more than 5 GB of free cloud storage, it’s easy to increase with an upgrade to a Microsoft 365 subscription7. For even greater set-up simplicity, sign into Microsoft Edge with your Microsoft account where you can opt to sync your browsing history, favorite websites, passwords and other browser data to make moving from one device to the next seamless.

Accessible by default

Voice access expansion

List of Voice Access commands Tools like Voice access have made it possible to set up and navigate your PC easily using your preferred inputs, like voice, and based on your needs. Starting today, Voice access works in more places8, including during log-in so you can get started with voice from step one. You can now dictate complex and non-standard words through the new spelling experience, and the corrections functionality will fix words that were recognized incorrectly. Screen to correct text using your voice To activate, search for Voice access in your app list to start setting up.

Natural languages in Narrator

Screen for choosing a voice in Narrator Last year, we introduced three new voices8 to make listening more natural and enjoyable when using Narrator. Now, we are expanding to support even more languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English (U.K., India). To start using Narrator, press Win + Ctrl + Enter.

Easier than ever to stay secure

Windows 11 offers an unprecedented range of security benefits to protect your information and your PC to keep it secure. And we are investing in even more new experiences like Passkeys, Smart App Control and Adaptive Dimming, all designed to make it easier to stay protected.

You only need to smile to sign in  replace passwords with passkeys

Windows Security sign-in screen With the integration of Passkeys, Windows 11, with Windows Hello, will make it even more difficult for hackers to steal your passwords. Passkeys are the cross-platform future of secure sign-in management and eliminate the need for passwords. A passkey creates a unique, unguessable credential and allows you to sign in using your face, fingerprint or device PIN. Passkeys on Windows 11 will work on multiple browsers including Edge, Chrome, Firefox and others. Learn more about Passkeys and how to develop yours.

Presence sensing improvements to increase security and reduce energy use

Presence sensing screen in Windows 11 Reducing energy usage is becoming increasingly more important and today, we are announcing another way to conserve energy with Adaptive Dimming. If your PC presence sensor detects you are no longer paying attention, it will slowly dim your screen and save energy. This can also serve as an alert to refocus, keeping you in the flow. Wake on Approach, Lock on Leave, and Adaptive Dimming are all powered by presence sensors and starting today, if your PC has this sensor, you can enable these important features all within your startup experience or in Settings. This means you have control over these features – both turning them on or off and the information collected. This functionality will also extend to external monitors if offered by the manufacturer. The security feature updates don’t stop there. We know that our business customers expect a secure PC environment for their employees and today we are rolling out additional features to add that extra layer of protection.

Windows Hello for Business can eliminate the need for passwords

Windows Hello for Business sign-in screen Windows Hello for Business can protect user identities by removing the need to use passwords from day one. Your IT manager can now set a policy for Microsoft Entra ID-joined PCs to remove the password requirement when accessing secured company resources. Once the policy is set, it will remove passwords both for device unlock as well as in-session authentication scenarios. Users are expected to navigate through their core authentication scenarios using strong, phish-resistant credentials like Windows Hello for Business and FIDO2 security keys.

Empowering IT professionals with Config Refresh

We know mistakes happen and teams can change important settings or tamper with the registry settings that IT wants to reset. Config Refresh is designed to allow settings in the PolicyCSP on a Windows 11 device to be reset every 90 minutes by default, or every 30 minutes if desired. And, in situations where helpdesk may need to reconfigure a PC while troubleshooting, Config Refresh can also be “paused” for a period of time, after which it will be re-enabled. Starting today, Config Refresh is available to our Windows Insiders and coming soon to all customers.

Securing applications with Intune

Another feature designed to help with malicious apps is Intune with App Control for Business (formerly Windows Defender Application Control). Many organizations cite application control as one of the most effective means of defending against executable file-based malware and with this feature, apps must earn trust before running in order to enable a more secure PC environment for employees. Customers using Microsoft Intune (sold separately) to manage their PCs are now able to configure App Control for Business in the admin console, including setting up Intune as a managed installer.

Commercial productivity

Windows 365 Boot streamlines access to your Windows 365 Cloud PC

Windows 365 Boot screen As an industry-leading solution, Windows 365 empowers a more flexible workforce with a fully managed solution that securely streams your Windows experience — including your personalized apps, content and settings — from the Microsoft Cloud to any device on a Windows 365 Cloud PC. In May we announced the preview of Windows 365 Boot, and today it becomes generally available. Windows 365 Boot lets employees log directly into their Windows 365 Cloud PC and designate it as the primary Windows experience on their device. This means that when they power on their device, Windows 365 Boot takes them to their Windows 11 login experience and directly into their Cloud PC with no additional steps in-between, saving them time and keeping them secure.

Seamlessly switch between your PC and Cloud PC

User experience for switching between your PC and Cloud PC Whether your employees are full-time, contractors, shift workers or seasonal staff, Windows 365 Switch provides the flexibility to transition between their Cloud PC and local desktop. With a familiar swipe gesture, shortcut keys or a simple mouse click on the taskbar, it is easier than ever for employees to securely access their personalized apps, content, data and settings on whichever device they choose to work from. Windows 365 maintains secure access and data policy controls between personal and corporate environments, which is great for organizations looking to enable Bring-Your-Own-PC scenarios, onboard employees within minutes, reduce management and security headaches, and ensure your workforce is always up and running.

Mobile Application Management (MAM) for Windows

Mobile Application Management (MAM) for Windows screen In addition to employees switching between their local and cloud PCs, we know that there are also times when organizations want to empower employees with access to company information on a personal PC, all while balancing their security needs. Whether an employee needs to borrow a family member’s computer to quickly make some edits to a Word doc or write out an email that would be time consuming on their phone, Mobile Application Management for Windows makes this possible. Employees can now access organizational resources through Microsoft Edge from an unmanaged device, all while giving IT the ability to control the conditions under which the resources can be accessed.

AI-powered recommendation in File Explorer and Start

AI-powered recommendations in File Explorer We are bringing AI-powered recommendations to File Explorer and the Start menu for our business customers running Windows PCs in their organization. These recommendations are designed to help you quickly and easily find the most relevant files for you based on your usage.

Introducing Instant Games in the Microsoft Store on Windows

Instant Games screen in Windows 11 With customers and developers at the heart of everything we do, we are pleased to introduce experiences, features and tools that make it easier to explore and access content even faster in the Microsoft Store on Windows. Starting today in preview, users can take advantage of Instant Games, a new experience that allows you to jump in and instantly play your favorite casual game directly from the Microsoft Store on Windows without the need to download and install on your Windows device. We’ve partnered with game publishers to be able to bring this experience to our collection of casual games. Find out how developers can participate. Coming this month, through the Microsoft Store on Windows, users will also have the option to select specific drives and locations for game installations, keeping their library organized just the way they prefer. We’ve also made it even easier for users to explore Game Pass subscriptions and discover the latest games and offers with a new page in the Microsoft Store on Windows. To extend the experiences that users have grown to love, we are redesigning collections, enabling performance improvements and providing richer search engine results on the Apps webpage in the Microsoft Store, offering users new ways to discover more content on their Windows device.

Samsung phone next to open PC laptop with a blue keyboard We know technology is more important today than ever before. While life has changed for everyone, some important things remain the same. People need to connect. They need to work. They need to play and enjoy life. Together, Microsoft and Samsung are addressing these needs, creating experiences and devices that are easier to use than ever before while providing greater flexibility and access to the tools you need from any place at any time. Since we announced our long-term partnership last year, we have been working closely to co-engineer experiences that help you move seamlessly between your devices and your life. Today, we share new integrations that will make this even easier. Seamless connection between PC and Phone We all rely on a variety of devices everyday across our work and personal lives, which often leads to disconnected experiences. A phone buzzing while you are in your work flow on your PC is the last thing you need, especially with the constant stream of interruptions we are facing while trying to work in new conditions. Microsoft’s Your Phone app and Link to Windows integration on select Samsung devices, enables you to stay in the flow by allowing you to take calls, check notifications, see photos and messages, all from your Windows 10 PC. Now, on your Samsung Galaxy Note20, you can access and interact with your favorite mobile apps directly on your Windows 10 PC through the Your Phone app [1]. GIF shows Samsung phone connecting to PC apps When you launch an app, it opens in a separate window, allowing you to multi-task and saving you the time and hassle of sign-in or set up. You can also pin your phone’s Android apps to your Windows 10 taskbar or Start menu for quick and easy access, making things like checking out your social feed or ordering your lunch while you wrap up a conference call even easier, without ever picking up your phone. GIF shows Your Phone app, showing mobile apps on PC screen Samsung Galaxy Note20 users can now access a single mobile app on their PC [2], with the power and convenience of running multiple apps side by side available later this year. Whether you are working on a document, keeping up on your social media feed or simply staying connected with family and friends, everything is accessible in one place, so your flow is never broken. Productivity wherever you are We are also making it seamless to transition between your Galaxy Note20 and Microsoft 365 apps with instant access to your most important notes across your devices. Coming soon, notes from Samsung Notes can automatically sync with your OneNote feed in Outlook on the web or OneNote as an image. You can quickly jot down your notes from a meeting or grocery list with your S Pen on Galaxy Note20 and have instant access to the content in your productivity apps like Outlook and OneNote. GIF shows M365 Samsung Notes, sharing a sketch of a bridge from a phone to an email on the PC laptop You will also be able to sync Samsung Reminders from your Galaxy Note20 to your Windows 10 PC across Microsoft To Do, Outlook and Microsoft Teams experiences, so you can view and edit from anywhere, keeping your reminders aligned across your phone, PC and apps. GIF shows Samsung Reminders opening up on the phone from Tasks on the PC laptop For the past year, Outlook has served as the app for personal productivity on new Samsung phones. We’re excited to announce today that we’re extending this integration to include Samsung Galaxy watches, including the new Galaxy Watch3. As the native email app on your most important devices across the Samsung ecosystem, Outlook will help you stay organized and productive. Custom optimization for S Pen will also be available on Galaxy Note20, making it easy to write or ink on photographs from your gallery. With OneDrive on Samsung Galaxy phones, you have your important files, documents and photos at your fingertips across devices. You can set your phone’s camera roll to automatically sync to OneDrive with Gallery, so your photos and videos are protected and always accessible. And with OneDrive Personal Vault you can store and protect important files with peace of mind behind an extra layer of identity verification. You can keep digital copies of your passport, ID cards, insurance, taxes and other sensitive files in OneDrive and access them securely on your device wherever you are [4]. Xbox Game Pass in your hands Today, we also announced Xbox is partnering with Samsung to make gaming more accessible to players around the world, via the cloud. Customers who pre-order the new Galaxy Note20 have the option to select the Gaming Bundle at purchase, which includes three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Today, we are excited to share the latest innovations in our partnership with Samsung, bringing together Samsung’s new devices for productivity with the best apps and services across Microsoft 365, Windows 10 and Xbox to help you across work and play. We know technology is more important today than ever before. Custom optimization for S Pen will also be available on Galaxy Note20, making it easy to write or ink on photographs from your gallery. Collage of people using Windows 10 devices From the launch of Windows 10, our focus was on moving people from having, to choosing, to loving Windows. With the release of every new build of Windows 10, we have seen customer satisfaction improve as we have made fixes and added new capabilities and experiences. We are humbled that customers are choosing and loving Windows 10, and there has never been a more important time for a secure, reliable platform that can empower people to create, educate and communicate wherever they are. Today we’re delighted to announce that over one billion people have chosen Windows 10 across 200 countries resulting in more than one billion active Windows 10 devices. We couldn’t be more grateful to our customers, partners and employees for helping us get here. From one to one billion devices—one customer at a time One in every seven people on the planet are planning, creating, ideating, executing, moving, shaking and doing great things with Windows 10. Because no matter who or where in the world or life they are, Windows 10 provides them with the features and flexibility they need to achieve more. From the high-powered developer who needs the most advanced technology available, to the business professional who needs to be productive at work and home, to the student in a developing market who is looking for a low-cost device for learning and self-improvement—Windows 10 is the platform to meet all these needs. With 100% of the Fortune 500 now using Windows 10 devices, it has become a critical platform for driving business transformation in the enterprise and beyond. As companies transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10, they are making a commitment to running their business more efficiently, more securely, and positioning themselves to offer better products, services and solutions to their customers. New Windows 10 features and security updates are now delivered faster than ever before. We’ve evolved from releasing a version every three years, to releasing multiple versions per year. And with the recent decoupling of the new Chromium-based Edge browser from Windows 10 we can now deliver new builds to customers outside of the normal Windows 10 release cadence—and to more versions of Windows. With Windows 10, our focus has always been to put the customer at the center, to listen to feedback, and to have that feedback shape the development process. One of the strongest examples of this customer focus is our Windows Insider Program which now has over 17.8 million Insiders, with members in every country of the world. We have also strived to make Windows an open, inclusive and accessible platform that can empower everyone to achieve their goals. Our Windows Accessibility team focuses on human-centered design, a method where engineers and designers work to deeply understand peoples’ needs, and then co-design and continuously iterate on solutions directly with them. “Here was an answer—here was something that could change his life.” Mitra Niknam Mitra Niknam and her son with a Windows 10 device It’s incredible to see the results of this work and the impact features like closed captions, narrator, magnifier and custom text size have made on people’s lives. Like Mitra Niknam’s son Andrew who was able to conquer his fear and learn to read. And Andre Louis who is his own one-man band thanks to Seeing AI. From PCs, to Mixed Reality, to Xbox and more Freedom of choice has always mattered to us—because we know it matters to you. Windows 10 is the only operating system at the heart of over 80,000 models and configurations of different laptops and 2-in-1s from over 1,000 different manufacturers. But that’s not all. Windows 10 also powers Mixed Reality and HoloLens—transforming the way people build, design, learn and experience the world around them. And not only is Windows 10 the most popular PC gaming platform on the planet, but it also powers the entire Xbox family of consoles, including the fastest and most powerful Xbox Series X, which will be available later this year. Windows 10 has enabled new category creation with devices like the Surface Pro, Surface Book and Surface Hub 2S. And we are committed to keep driving to innovate with devices like Surface Neo, a new dual-screen device which will run Windows 10X, which enables unique experiences on multi-posture dual-screen PCs. Windows 10 devices Windows is a diverse and powerful canvas that gives our OEM partners the flexible tools they need to deliver innovation to the world which can be seen in their latest and greatest devices, all built on Windows 10:
  • The Acer ConceptD 700 workstation is also built to handle heavy content creator workflows with ease, thanks to an Intel Xeon E processor and up to NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 graphics to address the needs of film makers, animators and AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) designers with powerful and stable performance for 3D computer-aided design (CAD).
  • The ASUS ExpertBook B9 is built for professionals who do business on the go, weighing in at just 865 grams with a 14.9mm-thin profile.   From 1.0 to 10 and beyond From pioneering seamless touch and pen experiences, to enabling biometric log-in with Windows Hello, and with experiences like the Your Phone app, enabling Android users to connect their phone to their PC—we strive to meet people where they are. And this innovation continues, bringing Windows to the cloud to make Windows 10 through Azure and virtual machines available on nearly every platform, from Mac to iOS or even Chromebooks. We will strive to make Windows the most accessible operating system on the planet regardless of where our users are, or what device they are on. Reaching a billion people with Windows 10 is just the beginning. We will invest in Windows not only within Windows 10 for PCs but also across many other Windows editions, serving diverse customer needs including Windows IoT, Windows 10 Teams edition for Surface Hub, Windows Server, Windows Mixed Reality on HoloLens, Windows 10 in S mode, Windows 10X and more. The browser and search engine for business Laptop displaying Microsoft Bing In our mission to empower people with knowledge with Microsoft 365, one critical opportunity is the internet. We know that 60% of the time people spend on the PC is within the web browser, and it has become the primary way we work, learn and play. The internet has become an everyday utility, that we reach for automatically without thinking, yet two decades after its introduction, we are bumping into challenges and obstacles that raise questions for us.
  • Is our data safe and our privacy protected as we surf the web?
  • At work, why can’t we find our internal company information, like our pay stub or co-worker’s office location, right from within our browser or search engine like we do with web search?
  • Why can’t the web work more seamlessly with the productivity tools we know like Office 365 so that we can be more productive with our research and collaborate with others?
At Microsoft, we believe it is time to expect more from your web experience whether you are using it for personal or business use, an IT manager in a company, or a web developer. Today we begin with a focus on people in businesses and introduce the new Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Bing – the browser and search engine for business. We see a unique opportunity to bridge the tradeoffs of today’s web search with more complete solutions that Microsoft can uniquely address. We will unite the internet with your intranet with Microsoft Search in Bing so that you can increasingly access more of your important data in a single browse and search experience. We will provide you powerful default privacy protection, while still allowing you to benefit from web personalization. And we will enable you to move from great web research directly into Microsoft Office applications to enable you to be more productive. Today, we also introduced a new Microsoft Edge logo that is designed to capture the waves of innovation that we plan to bring to you. Animation of new Edge logo The opportunity to empower people to be more productive at work One of the biggest problems for people at work is the difficulty in finding and accessing corporate information that is known to exist on company intranets. The irony is that it is easier to find an obscure piece of information on the much larger internet, than it is to find a simple document on your company’s intranet such as a paystub portal, a pet at work policy, or the office location of a fellow employee. As company information continues to expand to terabytes, petabytes and zettabytes of information, this will only get more complex. A McKinsey & Company research report validates this familiar challenge by showing employees waste nearly 20% of their time looking for information that they know to be there1. Imagine getting a full day of work back each week to either be more productive or get more time back with your family. For IT professionals, managing today’s web tools is heavy and costly with a majority of enterprise companies supporting at least two browsers to maximize compatibility across modern and legacy web sites across all the major device platforms. According to a 2019 study by the Ponemon Institute, the average cost of a data breach is $3.92M (USD)2. We see an opportunity to make security and manageability simple for IT professionals. To help people and IT professionals be more in control, secure and productive, today we are announcing:
  • The release candidate of the new Microsoft Edge for Windows and macOS can be downloaded right now with general availability targeting Jan. 15 in more than 90 languages. Microsoft Edge runs on the same Chromium web engine as Google’s Chrome browser, offering you best in class web compatibility and performance.
  • New experiences to Microsoft Search in Bing to save you time searching for information inside your company. Type in the address bar to search for people, using natural language, such as by their title, team name and office location. You can also search for office location, with answers that show floor plans for directions. You can get definitions for company acronyms and use a broad set of question and answers to find internal company information.

Bing user interface

  • Along with three ecosystem partners – Accenture, BA Insight and Raytion – we are starting our Microsoft Graph connectors preview program today. This expands the reach of Microsoft Search for Microsoft 365 customers, with the addition of over 100 connectors including Salesforce.com, ServiceNow, Box and more, that will become available in H1 2020. Connectors bring more information to your employees’ fingertips through Microsoft Search.

Logos of ecosystem partners

  • The new ability to easily access Microsoft Search in Bing on your mobile phone. Knowledge workers will have the ability to search for company information on the go.
Bing on a mobile device
  • A new tracking prevention default in Microsoft Edge. We believe you should know who has access to your data and have the control to choose what you share. Microsoft Edge starts with tracking prevention on by default, so you don’t have to take any actions to immediately start having a more private browsing experience. With SmartScreen and Tracking prevention, we help protect you from phishing schemes, malicious software and new types of malware like cryptojacking. Microsoft Edge and Bing also now offer new InPrivate mode across your entire web experience so your online searches and browsing are not attributed to you, offering you more control over your personal data.

Privacy UI in Edge

  • New features such as Collections can be enabled as part of the Microsoft Edge preview builds, that let you more easily collect web content, organize your research and export that content into Word and Excel so that you can use the power of those applications to analyze information and collaborate.

Collections in Edge

For IT Professionals, we are also announcing three new capabilities:
  • The expansion of the Microsoft FastTrack deployment program to deploy the new Microsoft Edge in Q1 2020.
  • The expansion of the App Assure program to cover Microsoft Edge in Q1 2020. If your site works in Internet Explorer 11, Google Chrome, or the current version of Microsoft Edge, then it just works in the new version of Microsoft Edge. And if it doesn’t work, we’ll help you fix it at no additional cost. We’re the only company that can make that guarantee.
  • A new security baseline for the new Microsoft Edge. Security baselines are pre-configured groups of security settings and default values that are recommended by the relevant security teams. Microsoft Edge has its first security baseline now in preview, making it fast and easy for IT professionals to have a recommended starting point for security and compliance policies. These announcements build on top of a comprehensive Microsoft approach to control and security on Microsoft Edge, which utilizes core security architecture that IT professionals are already using and are familiar with.
Today marks an important milestone as we head to the formal launch of Microsoft Edge and Bing for our commercial customers in January. As we enter the new year, we are excited to share more about how we will expand opportunities for developers, and later in the spring even more for consumers. It’s time to expect more from the web! 1 “The social economy: Unlocking value and productivity through social technologies” McKinsey Global Institute 2 “Cost of a Data Breach Report 2019” Ponemon Institute

The browser and search engine for business

Laptop displaying Microsoft Bing In our mission to empower people with knowledge with Microsoft 365, one critical opportunity is the internet. We know that 60% of the time people spend on the PC is within the web browser, and it has become the primary way we work, learn and play. The internet has become an everyday utility, that we reach for automatically without thinking, yet two decades after its introduction, we are bumping into challenges and obstacles that raise questions for us.

  • New features such as Collections can be enabled as part of the Microsoft Edge preview builds, that let you more easily collect web content, organize your research and export that content into Word and Excel so that you can use the power of those applications to analyze information and collaborate.
