and continuing to build stronger security. We're excited to share the details of our AI browser announcement and other innovations we're showcasing at Ignite 2025 below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0AoFWipAMM Jump to the following sections to learn more:

Introducing Copilot Mode

Today, we're bringing the Copilot Mode that consumers can already experience into the work browser—powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot and with the safety foundations, security and controls that IT teams expect. In fact, early adopters of Copilot Mode motivated us when they quickly started asking: "Is there a work version available?" They too were excited by the potential and yet wary of risking work data. Copilot Mode in Edge for Business is a collection of agentic, proactive, and contextual features powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot. IT and security teams can enable advanced AI when they're ready. With Copilot Mode on, the browser is transformed into an intelligent partner that works with your teams' context, anticipates needs, and accelerates workflows. New productivity gains can be achieved by tapping into signals from your own work data through Microsoft Graph and your specific browser context. As a result, not only can the browser streamline tasks for you, but it can also go beyond the generic, to provide solutions that are tailored to you and your work. Organizations are adopting AI at different rates, and even within a single organization, teams may be moving at different speeds. We respect that. Copilot Mode is designed to meet you where you are, offering an explicit toggle that you can turn on to step into the most advanced AI browsing. This means you only need one browser to get it all: advanced AI and secure browsing for the enterprise. Simply put: with Copilot Mode, you can start AI browsing when your organization is ready. To begin with, Copilot Mode includes these experiences: Agent Mode streamlines tedious work by automating multi-step workflows. Time-consuming tasks can be handed off, so your workforce stays focused on what matters. To ensure control, Copilot Mode will not be automatically enabled. After enabling Copilot Mode, you set up Agent Mode separately by turning it on and specifying a list of approved sites where it can operate. Agent Mode is limited to these sites. For employees, there are clear visual cues when they are in Agent Mode, and they can interrupt the process at any point. Our recommendation is to start exploring Agent Mode with a short list of approved sites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXZReHZJaRY The Copilot-inspired new tab page combines search and chat in one intelligent box, and offers quick access to files, calendar, and personalized prompts—keeping everything your workforce needs at their fingertips. It's also the starting point for the Daily Briefing—a curated summary of meetings, tasks, and priorities based on browsing tabs and the graph. No more digging through emails or juggling apps—your workforce can stay focused on what matters most. Agent Mode and Daily Briefing require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The New tab page of Edge for Business, showing the M365 Copilot input field, and three columns with Calendar, Copilot Prompts, and M365 Files.

Multi-tab reasoning and other AI upgrades

We're also excited to announce new features that leverage your browser context to make everyday browsing smarter. Think about the time wasted jumping between tabs and trying to piece together information. With multi-tab reasoning, Copilot can analyze content across up to 30 open tabs—whether they're web pages, internal sites, PDFs, or Microsoft files—and deliver nuanced, context-rich answers without the need to switch back and forth. No more manual comparisons or endless toggling—Copilot does the heavy lifting so your workforce can focus on decisions, not data gathering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIZFzXoCofs It doesn't stop there. Copilot can also retrieve pages from your browsing history over the last three months using natural language. No need to retrace steps, or remember exact titles or URLs—just ask, and Copilot finds what's needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqHt_p8gNNc And for video content? YouTube summarization lets Copilot summarize videos and answer questions about their content—so your workforce gets the insights without sitting through the entire clip. The result: less time wasted, fewer interruptions, and more focus on what matters most. Video summarization is planned for additional video services in the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9bLpA0QxBY

Secure AI browsing controls

Here on the Edge for Business team, we recognize safe AI browsing starts with choice and trust. This is why we offer a system of safety, when it comes to AI browsing. Foundationally, it starts with Enterprise Data Protection. Microsoft 365 Copilot ensures prompts, responses, and files stay within your tenant, with Microsoft acting solely as a data processor—not using your data to train models or for advertising. This foundation is present for all your engagement with Copilot in Edge for Business, so long as you are logged in with an eligible Entra ID. As mentioned, Copilot Mode is an explicit step that must be taken first, to generally enable advanced AI capabilities. As such, we expect to bring more advanced AI innovations to you through Copilot Mode. For specific features, we will also have an additional "gate", in terms of requiring an explicit decision to enable. This is the case with Agent Mode, and it even has several additional layers of protection. First, IT teams must enable it and specify sites it can work on; meanwhile, users see visual cues and can stop it anytime. Agent Mode also honors existing data protection policies like DLP and usage rights restrictions (this also applies to multi-tab reasoning), so there are no loopholes in how data can be used. It also won't access saved passwords or payment methods, and it pauses on sensitive actions for explicit user engagement. You may have questions about risks that are particular to agentic browsing, which we have also covered in a separate technical blog for Copilot Mode. Controls for Secure AI Browsing. Agentic controls: Agend Mode enabled via additional toggle, allow list of sites must be provided, honors existing data protections, no access to savec passwords and payment methods, pauses on sensitive actions for user input. Copilot Mode: A switch to toggle on advanced AI browsing. Enterprise data protection: prompts, responses, files stay within tenant boundaries, Microsoft solely a data processor. These protections aren't an add-on—they're foundational to Edge for Business and ready from day one. Starting today, you can enable Copilot Mode in the Edge management service to experience the Copilot-inspired new tab page. All other features are in private preview, and will be in public preview in February across Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Microsoft named a Leader in IDC MarketScape

These new AI capabilities are the future of browsing. But, with so many options in the market, what makes Edge for Business different? It's our industry-leading secure enterprise foundation. In case you missed it, Microsoft has been named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Application Streaming and Enterprise Browsers 2025 Vendor Assessment (doc #US53004525e, July 2025). See our blog on this or download the excerpt here to see for yourself. And of course, Microsoft is a recognized leader in security, identity, and endpoint management, and is acknowledged as a premier Zero Trust platform provider. These are the security technologies integrated into Edge for Business. Simply put, we bring world class security to every layer of the browser stack.

Protect browsing for contractors

While securing AI browsing is critical, it's only part of the story—organizations still need to protect day-to-day work browsing, especially for contractors. When you hire contractors, you want to maintain control over how your corporate data is accessed and protected. Yet in many cases, a contractor's device is managed by their contracting agency, not by you—creating security and compliance challenges. And providing secure access to them may be more costly and complex than you'd like. There's a better way. Today, admins can already support BYOD scenarios on Edge for Business with Microsoft Intune app protection policies. With this update, Edge for Business now extends these policies to Windows PCs managed by other organizations. Contractors simply set up an Edge profile on their agency-managed device, creating a controlled browser environment. From there, admins can enforce policies that stay active throughout the Edge profile. Files download securely to a OneDrive for Business location instead of local drives, and a new Intune protection policy for Windows unenrolled devices that restricts copying data, keeps sensitive information within your managed boundary. Contractors get the access they need, while you maintain control. The result? Flexibility for your workforce, security for your organization, and peace of mind for you, with cost savings that help your bottom line. Protections for contractor devices will be in preview in early 2026. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFpfIXCBzp0

Watermarking for sensitive files and sites

When it comes to data security, IT admins need safeguards that protect data without slowing users down. That's why we're announcing watermarking in Edge for Business, to provide protection that keeps work moving. Watermarking adds a persistent visual reminder on files and sites marked as sensitive. This makes confidential content easier to identify and also reminds users to handle data carefully. Admins can enable watermarking with a single toggle in the Edge management service. The overlay appearance is based on the DLP restriction policies for the file or site, ensuring compliance without extra effort. The result? Users stay aware, accidental sharing is reduced, and organizations maintain control, all without slowing down workflows. Now available in preview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92kbODkxoAk

Protecting copy/paste actions

Admins face a tough "all or nothing" call with copy/paste: lock it down and frustrate users, or allow it and risk data leaks. Neither option feels right, and both can slow productivity. That's why today, we're announcing Protected Clipboard in Edge for Business, designed to keep data safe without breaking workflows. It leverages existing Purview DLP policies for managed cloud apps to let you define trusted boundaries across your managed web apps. Data inside the admin defined boundary can't be pasted outside, while data from outside can enter if needed. Users get clear warnings for out-of-bound actions, so they know exactly what's happening. Granular control for you and uninterrupted productivity for your users. Now available in preview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_NtCQ4AYaA

Unify policy management across platforms

Managing browser policies across multiple platforms can be complex, and admins need a consistent, secure way to keep everything aligned. That's why the Edge management service was built: to deliver lightweight, browser-focused management that admins can trust. It's received great feedback, but so far, admins have only been able to manage Windows PCs through the tool. Now, this support extends even further. With new cross‑platform policies in the Microsoft 365 admin center, you can manage Edge across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android—all from one dashboard. Simply select the platforms you need, configure policies broadly or fine‑tune individual settings, and maintain consistent security without switching tools. It's the same management platform you already trust—now extended to help keep your organization secure, no matter what devices your users choose. Available in preview now. Learn more here.

Simplify prerelease testing with built-in flexibility

Testing prerelease builds has often been a hassle. Rolling out a separate Beta app alongside Stable usually means extra installs, low engagement, and delays in validating updates. And if something breaks, users are stuck and productivity suffers. Now, Edge for Business is making testing simpler and more flexible. Enterprise preview brings Beta builds right inside the Stable Edge app—no extra installs for admins, no app switching for users. This allows you to spot regressions early, so issues can be fixed before they stop work down the line. With the Edge management service and Intune, you can set policies to decide who gets preview builds and whether rollback to Stable is allowed. That rollback option gives users a safety net and lets you crowdsource validation without slowing work. With everything in one app, testing becomes part of the normal workflow—giving admins more control without compromising security or productivity. Available in preview by the end of this year.

Take control of browser extensions

Extensions are everywhere in business environments, yet admins often have limited visibility into what's running on managed browsers. That blind spot can be a security risk: if you don't know what's installed, you can't protect your data. Extension monitoring in Microsoft Edge for Business changes that. Through the Edge management service, admins get a complete inventory of installed extensions, see how many users have each one, and track requests for blocked extensions. Admins can manage those requests and set installation policies—all from one simple, centralized page. With visibility and control in one place, managing extension risk becomes simple and proactive. Available in preview in early 2026.

Microsoft Edge for Business is your secure enterprise browser

With the growing use of SaaS and cloud services, the browser is the most used app on a PC. And with this single app, you need to meet the wide range of use cases in your organization, including elevated security and data control scenarios. The good news is that you already have the right browser ready to go, pre-installed on Windows. Edge for Business is a secure enterprise browser optimized for AI that can help meet the security and productivity needs of your entire organization, as a single browser. It supports advanced security features such as data loss prevention, unmanaged device support, and even generative AI controls. With Edge for Business, you get more security without the hassle of a ton of extensions, since it extends the enterprise-grade protections from your Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 licenses, at no additional cost. This security is backed by Microsoft, a leader in security, compliance, identity, and endpoint management.

    Management made simple

To configure your secure enterprise browser, you need a robust management solution. If you're a pro at policy management or are an enterprise customer, you likely use Microsoft Intune to configure policies, and you can manage Edge for Business there too. For browser specialists, small or medium sized businesses, or those that want a guided experience, we recommend the Edge management service in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Customers love its easy-to-use UI, AI controls, and organizational branding features, and now it's even better with the added capability to set Intune policies. This enables you to deploy both browser policies in the cloud and Intune policies from a single pane, making it easy to keep users safe and your browser workflow streamlined. The ability to deploy Intune policies in the Edge management service is now in preview.

Safely introduce and control AI in your organization

AI is a big productivity accelerator, yet it also presents a big challenge with unsanctioned AI use. The Edge management service offers a comprehensive solution for overseeing AI in Edge for Business. You can restrict access to public AI services that may not meet your organization's compliance requirements, as well as exert precise control over Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft's AI chat for the web and work. Edge for Business offers an integrated Copilot experience with enterprise data protection that addresses data leakage and other AI security concerns. Not all browsers offer integrated AI chat with enterprise-grade data protection, and at no additional cost. You also have the power to manage the browser's AI features that are independent of Copilot, such as text prediction and AI-generated themes. Managing Copilot and other AI usage in the Edge management service is generally available, and you can learn more here.

Deploy encrypted shared passwords with ease

There's a known security gap that you may have been tolerating out of necessity—a common password shared across a set of users. Whether it's a team accessing the same data repository or managing common social media accounts, passwords are often passed around in emails, chats, and even on paper. This risky practice can lead to unapproved users gaining access and serious downstream consequences. Secure password deployment in the Edge management service can help put an end to this. It enables you to deploy encrypted shared passwords to a set of users, allowing them to log into websites seamlessly without ever seeing the actual passwords, reducing the risk of unauthorized access and enhancing your organization's overall security posture. Secure password deployment will be available in preview in the coming months for Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3, and E5 subscriptions. Secure password deployment UI in the Edge management service

    Keep your estate up-to-date

Keeping all browser instances up-to-date is crucial to protect against threats. The Edge management service offers a single view of all managed Edge instances with their update status and possible actions to take. For out-of-date devices, you can easily schedule updates or notify users to update their browser to avoid workflow interruptions. This feature is now in public preview. admin's view in the Edge management service of the Edge update status across their organization

Protect your Microsoft Office documents on the web

Managing sensitive Microsoft Office documents on the web has traditionally posed significant challenges due to insufficient leak controls in the browser. Edge for Business now respects usage rights restrictions on sensitive Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, such as blocking screen captures. It leverages Microsoft Purview Information Protection settings that were previously only for desktop Office apps, enhancing protections for editing, printing, and copying on the web. This protection is native and exclusive to Edge for Business. Microsoft Purview Information Protection for online Microsoft 365 documents is currently in preview and will be generally available by the end of the year. To prevent unintentional sharing of sensitive information, we strongly recommend disabling other browsers that lack adequate document protection, so users do not accidentally expose content through security loopholes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xYs0stcgm4

    Support any device, anywhere

Managing data security across personal and unmanaged devices has become a new norm with hybrid work. With Microsoft Intune's Mobile Application Management (MAM), you can help ensure that your organization's data remains secure even on these devices, without requiring device enrollment. By leveraging Intune's app protection policies, you can help safeguard sensitive information, enforce compliance, and provide a seamless user experience across Windows 10, Windows 11, and mobile devices. Whether your employees are using company-owned or personal devices, MAM helps ensure that your organization's data is protected, enabling secure and productive work environments. Unmanaged device support using Intune MAM is currently available. Learn more about Intune MAM and how to use it for mobile devices.

Detect scams in real time with scareware blocker

Online scams have become increasingly sophisticated, to the point where you may feel it's out of your control to protect yourself and your users—even those who are technologically savvy. One particular type of scam is "scareware". It takes over the entire browser screen, creating a sense of urgency and panic that pressures people to act quickly, potentially granting the scammer remote access to their computer. These scams appear and vanish within hours—often before any preventative action can be taken. To combat such scams, Edge is introducing new, no-cost capabilities to help identify scareware in real-time to help make the internet a safer place both inside and outside of work. Scareware blocker uses machine learning (ML) to identify these scams. Upon finding a potential danger, it displays a warning to alert users. If the user identifies the website as safe, they are still in control and can continue to the page. For organizations, using scareware blocker helps prevent attacks that could attempt to gain remote access. This helps to protect your network and your employees. Scareware blocker will be in public preview in the coming months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcJKbba2AjY

Management for partners is getting easier with new policies in Microsoft 365 Lighthouse

For partners, Microsoft 365 Lighthouse is a game-changer. It provides Managed Service Providers (MSPs) with a powerful tool to manage customers at scale. Lighthouse facilitates multi-tenant management, giving you a clear view and control over all your customers. You can quickly set up security settings for Microsoft Edge for Business, so that policies are consistently applied across all your customers, saving you time while enhancing security. We're excited to announce that additional Edge for Business policies will be coming to Lighthouse, making it even easier for partners to manage and secure their customers' web browsers. These new policies include customization abilities, such as adding organization branding; enhanced security features, such as password monitoring and generation; and other configurations, such as allowing Copilot to access page content and allowing single sign-on. These policies will be available in Lighthouse in public preview in the coming months. Learn more here.

Calm tab chaos with just a few clicks

We know security is a top concern, but you also want to drive productivity for your organization. Edge for Business comes packed with useful tools that help your users stay organized and tame the chaos. If you're someone who constantly has a ton of tabs open, you probably know how chaotic it can be to locate the specific tab you need. With vertical tabs, you can more easily read the page titles by displaying the tabs on the side rather than horizontally on top. Furthermore, you can group your tabs together with a name and color, so they are even more organized. If you don't have time to group your tabs individually, Edge for Business can do it for you. AI detects the common themes across your tabs and groups them together for instant organization. And, you can easily adjust the groupings to suit your preferences. These tab groups remain synced across your devices, ensuring you stay organized regardless of your location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PICEfaEZ4f0 When you're working on multiple projects, it's easy for project tabs to get mixed together, wasting your time as you search for the right one. But what if all your tabs for each project were separated into their own neatly organized windows? Edge workspaces do just that. Workspaces let you open a group of tabs together, so you can bring up a whole project's tabs in one go. You can also share the workspace with others, so your team can access all the project resources with just one link. Workspaces allow you to switch between projects quickly, and you can close out of your workspace with all your tabs auto-saved to come back to it later. Between tab groups and workspaces, using Edge for Business makes it easier to manage your work and projects. To get started with these, download and share the tip sheet. Vertical tabs, tab groups, and Workspaces are currently available. Learn more here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k68GRWzZDF8

Reduce browser data exfiltration with expanded screenshot prevention across more apps and AI tools

With a simple screenshot, it can be easy for your organization's data to be exfiltrated to another party or shared with AI. To help stop this, we’re excited to announce that the data leak control capabilities in Edge for Business are expanding to support screenshot prevention policies. When these policies are set, screenshot attempts while using Edge on desktop will be prevented by showing a black screen instead of the protected content. This protection also applies to Copilot in the Edge sidebar so prompts and responses in Copilot cannot be captured by screenshot. These policies can be set across Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDA), Microsoft Intune Mobile Application Management (MAM) and Microsoft Purview. This will give your organization additional protection to help keep sensitive data from leaking. Edge for Business support for screenshot prevention will become available in the coming months. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfvfDMEbQFs[/embed]

Improved leak protection in sensitive Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents in Edge

We're also expanding the ability for Edge for Business to honor usage rights restrictions on Word, Excel and PowerPoint files marked as sensitive. You can now limit the ability for Copilot to reference highly sensitive content via sensitivity labels, as well as restrict screen capture. These advanced restrictions from sensitivity labels have not been possible in any browser until now. This expanded protection will allow Edge to take full advantage of the settings you can already apply to these documents in the desktop apps. It also builds on the editing, printing and copying protections already available in Edge today. With this exclusive and native browser support, you can have a greater peace of mind that your sensitive data has more safeguards when using Edge for Business. This will be available in the coming weeks. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLArkiSjW4o[/embed]

Easily keep your estate up-to-date with Edge management service

Ensuring that all browser instances are up-to-date is essential to defend against threat actors. Here’s how we’re making it easier than ever for you. The Edge management service was launched as a reimagining of how browser management and configuration should work for you. We’re continuing to invest in simplifying IT workflows and are excited to share that you can now get a single view into managed Edge instances. You can easily know which instances are up-to-date or not. If you need to enforce actions from there, you can schedule a one-time update or send a recommendation to the user to update their browser to prevent workflow interruptions. You can also add extra browser protections, such as disabling just-in-time JavaScript compilation, by turning on enhanced security mode. With this consolidated view of your Edge instances, you can stay ahead of threats and reduce vulnerabilities on your managed devices. This will be available in public preview in the coming weeks. Profiles in Microsoft Edge screen

Extend MDA protections to Edge sessions on unmanaged devices

With the rise of hybrid work, you may have noticed more unmanaged devices accessing your network. To help protect your data in Edge beyond managed devices, we have enabled unmanaged device support with Intune MAM to provide app protections and the ability to wipe organizational data. To bring you even more protection, Edge for Business now has native support for session policies with MDA. This provides granular controls over site protections that let you take actions such as blocking or monitoring file downloads and uploads, clipboard actions and printing on unmanaged devices. These policies will be applied directly to users signed into Edge with their Entra ID. This will achieve better performance since there is no need for the proxy used in other browsers. And with no need for JavaScript-based enforcement controls, you gain better WebApp compatibility and more compliance for work resource access. This is available in public preview today. Make Edge for Business your own with organization branding

It’s hard work configuring your browsers to protect your data and provide a unified experience for your organization. To help this, you can customize Edge for Business to make it your own by applying your organization's branding. Through the Edge management service, you can add your company name, color and logo to customize the look and feel. With visual cues in the profile pill, profile flyout and taskbar icon, your users will know that they are working in the browser you’ve configured to maximize their productivity and safety. This is available today. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7Ffyp93Hn4[/embed]

Get multiple AI services under control with Edge management service

With the Edge management service, you have a one-stop-shop for managing AI in Edge for Business. Within a configuration profile, you can block public AI services that may not be compliant for your organization and also have fine-tune control over Copilot, such as enabling or disabling Copilot from accessing page content. You can also manage the browser’s AI features outside of Copilot, such as enabling or disabling text predictions, “Find on page” suggestions for websites, or AI generated themes. When logged into Edge with an eligible Entra ID, your users will have these settings applied to Edge and the added benefit of commercial data protection when using Copilot. Now you can have confidence that you are in control of how your organization’s data interacts with AI. EMS enterprise secure AI settings screen

Get videos translated in real time with Edge

There's more video content available than ever, but much of it is inaccessible to large parts of the population due to language barriers and hearing disabilities. Real-time video translation uses AI to translate videos into available preferred languages in real-time through audio dubbing and/or subtitles. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to open the door to watching many more video across a variety of languages. Simply click on the translate icon, select the current and preferred language, and let AI do the rest. Real-time video translation is coming soon to popular video websites such as YouTube, LinkedIn, Reuters, CNBC News, Bloomberg, Coursera and more. It’ll be available from English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian and Spanish, and from Spanish and Korean to English, with additional languages and video websites coming in the future. Stay organized with Workspaces – now with AI and on mobile

Workspaces help you organize your tabs by project, so you can quickly pull up a browser window with all the related tabs saved together. And now, Workspaces are getting even better with AI.
